Les Daly – aifc Distance Education Student
What were you doing before taking on study at aifc (eg, what line of work/study?)?
I have been employed by Airservices Australia for the last 21 years as an Aviation Fire Fighter.
Why did you decide to study Counselling?
I have always had a passion to see people’s lives changed. By studying counselling with aifc, I will be equipped with the tools to facilitate that change. THAT EXCITES ME!
What made you choose to study at aifc?
aifc provides Biblically based counselling courses. I know the value of implementing God’s word in the counselling process. I also have a number of friends who have completed studies with aifc and have witnessed firsthand the fruit of their efforts.
What would you like to do when you graduate?
Firstly, I would like to create a Chaplain’s position within Air Services Australia, which would support my fellow fire fighters as they deal with day-to-day emergencies and trauma.
What do you like about the course so far?
Studying via Distance Education for someone living in a remote place like Cairns has made it more accessible and affordable.
As I haven’t studied for over 20 years, the support I receive from my tutor and other students along with a variety of resources has made completing assessments much more achievable.
How is study fitting into your lifestyle?
As a husband and father of three children, the flexibility of Distance Education hasn’t stopped me finding the recommended 20 hours to complete study and assessment requirements. I have just applied for a transfer to a FIFO (Fly in, fly out) position in Western Australia so the portability with aifc is invaluable to being able to complete my studies.
