Roger Dannock – aifc Student in Canberra

Roger with his daughter

What were you doing before taking on study at aifc (eg, what line of work/study?)?
Working in the Building industry

Why did you decide to study Counselling?
I had a heart for young people who were floundering in difficult situations; like relationship issues and marriage break ups. I wanted to be able to offer them more than just my life experience.

What made you choose to study at aifc?
I knew some of the lecturers already and they were all solid Christians so I was confident aifc would have a genuine Christian basis to study.

What would you like to do when you graduate?
While studying with aifc, I’ve developed a heart for perhaps, one day, counselling the elderly; helping them overcome emotional pain they’ve carried throughout their lives. Maybe not working in counselling in a ‘formal role’ but rather being able to help others I encounter.

What do you like about the course so far?
It’s forced me to look at myself and it’s taught me that active listening is vitally important.

How is study fitting into your lifestyle?
Being able to study at night and weekends has made it easier to fit it in and using ‘Dragon’ (Speech to text) has helped overcome my slow typing speed).
