A Christian Look At ‘The Will’

A Christian Look At ‘The Will’

In this weekly devotional with Susan Daniel, we take a look at the significance of the will and what it means to line up our will with God’s will for our lives.

‘Will ‘- a small word with much meaning. We speak of people being ‘strong-willed’, having an ‘iron will’ or even a ‘clash of wills’. Then of course at the end of life, there is a ‘reading of a will’. We all use the words, “I will or I will not” in nowadays, either by what we say and/or what we do.

Come with me for a brief look at a couple of verses in John 6 where we see the word, ‘will’ is used often.

Jesus tells us He came down from heaven not to do (His) will but to do the will of Him who sent me. (John 6:38) He further tells us (v40) that it is His Father’s will (the One who sent Jesus), for us to look to Jesus (seek Him), believe in Him and be raised up with Him.

At the reading of a last will we hear the testimony of what the person wanted most. Here we read what God Our Father wants most – eternal life with us.

“But everyone my Father has given to me, they will come. And all who come to me, I will embrace and will never turn them away. “

And I have come out of heaven not for my own desires, but for the satisfaction of my Father who sent me.

My Father who sent me has determined that I will not lose even one of those he has given to me, and I will raise them up in the last day.

For the longing of my Father is that everyone who embraces the Son and believes in him will experience eternal life and I will raise them up in the last day!” John 6:37-40 TPT

We. Are. Chosen! Will you believe? Will you seek Him in this day?

Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hearing my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me. Revelation 3:20 TPT

Be blessed in this week! Enjoy His grace and mercies. You might also enjoy hearing this song my brother in law wrote and recorded 30 years ago.

Spiritual Formation, Fear, and Following God’s Call

January 24, 2026 | Faith

Ready to Change? Most people do not resist change because they are stubborn or unwilling. They resist because change asks something of them — emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. Often, the desire for change is present long before action follows. People recognise patterns that are no longer life-giving. They notice recurring struggles, emotional reactions, or relational…
