libbybaensch_melbourneWhat were you doing before taking on study at aifc (eg, what line of work/study?)?

Full time Mum – My children were 18, 16, 14 and 12 years old when I started my diploma, and I had been home-schooling them for the last 12 years. I was also involved with Abigail Ministries (support groups for woman married to unbelievers) and Elijah House prayer ministries.

Why did you decide to study Counselling?
I love seeing people find healing and freedom from burdens and issues that steal their joy, interfere with their relationships and prevent them from being all that God has made them to be. It’s a passion of mine to see people walking in God’s truth and love…..studying counselling equips me to help people to do this.

What made you choose to study at aifc?
I heard about the course from a few sources. It sounded like just what I was after – psychology through God’s filter, sound training in practical counselling and logistically in a form that was doable for me.

What would you like to do when you graduate?
Not sure where, but to counsel people, probably focusing on marriage, addictions and/or sexual issues.

What do you like about the course so far?
I like learning and gaining more insight into how people and relationships work. I have been blessed with really supportive tutors, Kerry last year and Sally this year, who have found just the right balance in encouraging, informing and challenging me. Personally I feel that I have grown heaps in doing the course – I know myself more and my relationships have improved. I enjoy the freedom of studying at home, and the seminars, which are informative and a good chance to catch up with the other students and tutors again.

How is study fitting into your lifestyle?
It fits in well. With most of the work being done at home I can tailor it around my family and lifestyle. And I enjoy the change of pace with the three day seminars each term. It’s a good mix for me.
