7 Simple Ways To Love & Add Value to Others

Spreading joy intentionally contributes to the good of humanity and allows us to connect with new people.

Adding value to others begins with genuine acts of kindness without an ulterior motive and without judgement or assumptions. Jesus spent time listening to others, speaking the truth, healing people, loving them, and he also prayed for them. Jesus had a way of persuading others with love and affection rather than intimidation. Their self-worth was never under attack. It is God who gives dignity to mankind, and His word tells us we are worth dying for! John 3:16

The smallest acts of kindness towards others can change someone’s day.

What are some simple ways we can add value to others?

1. PERFORMING RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
Some random acts of kindness can make someone’s day. Our actions can include opening a car door for someone to get in or out of a vehicle. We can even pay for 1 cup of coffee for the person standing behind us in a queue. We can cook a meal for a family member or help a neighbour with chores. Proverbs 11:25

2. BEING GENEROUS, HOSPITABLE, THOUGHTFUL, FAIR AND QUICK TO FORGIVE
There are many ways we can be generous, hospitable, thoughtful and quick to forgive. Here are some ways we can do that.
a. Shout a friend – Invite a friend out for a coffee and take care of the bill.
b. Write a ‘thank you’ card – show your appreciation and gratitude to someone who has blessed you, as an act of thoughtfulness.
c. Be a good steward of all God has given you – prayerfully ask God how you can be a blessing to meet the needs of others.
d. Be fair to others – practice fairness with others in your relationships and in the workplace.
e. Be hospitable – invite a guest to your place for a home-cooked lunch or dinner.
f. Forgive others – Let it go and give it to God. Pray about it. There’s healing in forgiveness.

3. ENCOURAGE OTHERS AND GIVE PRAISE WHERE PRAISE IS DUE
We can encourage others in their walk with God. People who are given genuine praise for a job well done are often grateful for being appreciated. Children thrive from loving encouragement and positive reinforcement. Hebrews 10: 24-25, 1 Thessalonians 5:11

4. BE NEIGHBOURLY
Take the time to say hello to your neighbours. With the little we have, we can do so much to show them we care. We can offer to water their plants while they’re away on holidays or to feed the family pet. 1 Peter 4:10

5. BE THERE FOR OTHERS
People will inevitably experience the ups and downs of life. Be a friend, listen carefully without interruptions or judgements, and avoid scattering the pearls of another person’s heart by keeping their business confidential. Be present, be kind and speak positive, truthful and uplifting words. Be ready to offer a hug and a shoulder to cry on. Galatians 6:2
Connect with others and disciple those that want to learn more about Christ.

6. BE OPEN TO CHALLENGES AND BE ACCOUNTABLE
People will often tell us what they think we need to hear. Opinions are plentiful. However, we need to be approachable and be able to receive constructive criticism without taking it personally or becoming defensive. We need to be open enough to be able to receive from others and respect differing opinions whether we agree with them or not. Proverbs 27:17

7. USE YOUR TALENTS & GIFTS
Your gift back to God is blessing others with your unique set of skills and talents. You can bless others are by volunteering to help charity organisations assist people in need, teaching others what you know and serving others without charging them a dollar for the work you do for them. James 1:17
Adding value to others also comes from intentional living and an attitude of gratitude. God wants us to love others as we love ourselves. How would you like to be treated by others? John13:34-35
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Spiritual Formation, Fear, and Following God’s Call

Ready to Change? Most people do not resist change because they are stubborn or unwilling. They resist because change asks something of them — emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. Often, the desire for change is present long before action follows. People recognise patterns that are no longer life-giving. They notice recurring struggles, emotional reactions, or relational…
